All about the service for my buddy Robbie the Bowlegg Smith.

posted Thursday, 29 June 2006
We just got home from the send off for Rob. He had a great group of people at the service. People from his job came, friends, family, bloggers and people from everywhere. The place was full. A few peole said some nice things about Rob and then we all went to his Mama's house for a party. We had 6 pickers, organ and a belly organ playing. Great music and wonderfull food. Sam and Quinton came and sat with brother Dave and Pam, his aunts and uncles were there also. Stacy came all the way from Texas and some of the bloggers are staying at my house. Most people said it was a very good service and Robbie would have liked it. I new Rob would be there, so I boiled up about 10 pounds of green peanuts, I know he ate some, cause the bowl was almost gone. Before everyone left, I got to hold my buddy one last time, Sam gave me a wooden box with him in it. I almost cried. They will put my buddy to rest at a few of his best places on earth, that he loved the most. We will have plenty pictures tomorrow and watch some of your friends for details. So long Bowleggs, Cat.

A fine tribute, and I'm glad he'll be part of some of the places that made him happy. :-)

Hey Cat...just wanted to drop you a note and express my personal regret of Acidman's death.

I just moved down here to the Georgia coast a couple of years ago and started blogging about that same time and I hadn't had time to meet you guys, but I intended to attend a blogmeet when there was another one nearby.

Any way, Rob cut a big swath across the internet and he was a big influence in my writing style and I'll miss checking out his cracker ass thoughts several times each day.

Keep on keeping on...

Thanks for the post Cat. I talked to a couple of those knuckleheads last night, but it wasn't the same as gettin' a call from a meet. The mood was certainly more subdued.

It's a new day brother...

Hi Cat, I only knew Rob for 20 months or so. He touched my life deeply. I left a poem/rhyme for all of us at my site.

I am so very sorry, Cat. I wish like hell I could have been there. I wonder if anyone has made any inquiries about getting a little bit of Rob down to Costa Rica? I'd imagine, with all the military personnel and such who read him that someone might be passing through that way. I certainly would like to think of a little of him being forever a part of that place.

I was fine during the service. I was fine during the get-together afterwards...and the get-together after that. But when I got home and read this post, I just simply lost my shit.

We were at Spanky's on River Street (the Exchange was closed). We had ordered our first round, and Velociman made a toast to Rob...and the next song that played on the P.A. was "Come Back To Boston." We knew right then that Rob was there with us...

It was good sharing this sad moment with you, Cat. Would have been much harder without you. You're a tough guy, you had your damn chin up, but I could tell you were hurting as bad as me.

Especially when you dropped your fucking trou at the sign in book.

Ha ha! Rob would have loved that. You rock, old boy.

mr. catfish, thanks for telling us how it went. i know many people are saying you made it much more bearable for them. i don't know if it was because you were being so strong for everyone...or because you really DID moon the funeral.

BTW - excuse me please, but if so, did anyone get a picture?

I wish it had been under different circumstances, but it was good to meet ya, Cat. I think we did a proper sendoff for Rob.

Take care, friend.
